Back in January 2017, Mother and I went on a trip to Turkey. She’d always wanted to go there. Since I was overdue for a quick getaway, I tagged her along with me — it was the first time for both of us. Back then, redeeming Singapore Airlines Krisflyer miles between Jakarta and Istanbul was a steal. With just 38,250 miles, you could book a one-way trip in business class, though the carrier surcharges and taxes were passed on to the passengers — it was around $200 per passenger.
In today’s Sunday Brunch episode, I’m going to focus on our long haul flight between Singapore and Istanbul. At the time, Singapore Airlines operated one of its oldest Boeing 777-200 fleet, which featured old business class seats. Nonetheless, the service was impeccable, as always.
We ordered Book the Cook. For supper, I had the famous Classic Lobster Thermidor, while mom ordered Grilled Beef Fillet. Unfortunately, I didn’t snap a picture of her meal.
For breakfast, we both ordered Poached Egg Served with Hollandaise Sauce.
Both meals were excellent. We landed in Istanbul right at sunrise right after a massive snowstorm. I was so glad that we dodged the bullet, and our flight wasn’t canceled.
Despite the old business class seat, mom seemed excited and fresh upon arrival at Istanbul Atatürk Airport.
Singapore Airlines never disappoint — I’d gladly fly with them again, even after the mileage redemption rate went up.
